The Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information is a national research centre set up under the federal CRC Program - www.crc.gov.au

A4 Handout - CRCSI (PDF)

The objective of the program is to do user driven research in emerging areas of science that tackle issues of national importance. The outcomes must be capable of adoption. We are one of 50 CRCs in operation. The partners’ funds attract co-investment by the federal government.

The CRCSI is in its seventh year. We have some 70 partners: 9 federal and state government agencies,  6 universities and over 50 companies. We have invested close to $100 million ($30 million cash and the rest in-kind salaries) since 2003. Our programs and projects are on our corporate website at www.crcsi.com.au

Our achievements are recognised nationally and internationally and in the media.

This website describes a successful bid for further CRC funding, from 1 Jan 2010 to end 2018.

This ambitious program of work will address national market failures and build critical spatial infrastructure in Australia so that:

  • essential government delivery services run more effectively, giving substantial productivity gains in
    • health
    • energy provision
    • agriculture
    • defence and security
    • urban development
  • we are best equipped to adapt to and deal with climate change impacts.
  • Australian industry and end-user capacity building is enhanced.

Senator the Hon Kim Carr gave a Ministerial Opening Address to the November 2008 CRCSI conference. You can view a recording of his address.
